VEHICLES IN FOCUS: 2S1 GVOZDIKA

With the exception of the Abbot, the Tier 4 2S1 Gvozdika (along its M109 Marat Shishkin counterpart) is the first self-propelled gun the players will encounter or have the option to unlock on the battlefield.

The Gvozdika (Carnation) was developed in Kharkov as the means to provide Soviet units with mobile firepower, intended to destroy enemy manpower, artillery and fortifications. Its development was inspired by western designs – unlike the Americans (who learned the value of indirect mobile artillery very early on), the Soviets preferred direct fire infantry support from the Second World War onwards, and the departure from this philosophy took nearly two decades. The late war and post-war Soviet assault guns such as the ISU-152 were usually well armored, packed quite a punch and were also capable of indirect fire, but were not exactly mobile.

While lightly-armored self-propelled guns were developed in the Soviet Union, even before the war, the events of the war, as well as the traditionalism of Soviet officers (and, of course, the price of such vehicles compared to simple towed artillery) slowed the development process considerably. On the other hand, with the onset of the Atomic age, tactical small yield nuclear weapons became a reality. One of the main arguments in favor of self-propelled guns was the fact that they could be made NBC-proof by over-pressuring the hull while towed artillery units were exceptionally vulnerable to such weapons (as well as the prime targets for their use).

The situation changed after trials held in 1965 in the Soviet Union that were to determine the combat value of the World War Two era self-propelled guns (such as SU-100 and ISU-152) on a modern battlefield. These trials have shown the inferiority of Soviet self-propelled guns to those used by NATO and on the 4th of July 1967, decision No.609-201 was taken by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and the Council of Ministers of the Soviet Union to develop a new 122mm self-propelled gun for the Soviet military.

The preliminary work to determine the general shape and characteristics of the upcoming vehicle was conducted by the VNII-100 technical institute. They proposed three chassis variants for the new gun – the Object 124 chassis (derived from the older Object 105, otherwise known as SU-100P), the MT-LB armored transport chassis and the BMP chassis. All three variants were supposed to be armed with a 122mm D-30 gun.

During the development it was found that the Object 124 chassis is too bulky and heavy and the self-propelled gun would lose any chance of becoming amphibious. Much like during BMP development, the Soviets were considered amphibious capabilty of the vehicle to be very important, although history has shown the dubious value of insisting on this trait at the expense of other vehicle features.

The MT-LB chassis on the other hand was too flimsy and unstable (making accurate fire impossible). The BMP-1 chassis was evaluated as acceptable, but P.P. Isakov (designer of the BMP) used his influence to forbid the SPG designers from using the BMP-1 chassis as the basis of the vehicle (the same ban applied to other derived vehicles that were proposed on the BMP chassis due to production streamlining efforts).

In the end, it was decided to use modified and prolonged chassis of the MT-LB armored transport. The resulting project received the GRAU designation 2S1 and was named “Gvozdika”. It was intended to serve in artillery divisions of motorized infantry regiments, replacing the M-30 and D-30 towed howitzers. The Kharkov Tractor Plant was selected as the main developer of the self-propelled gun and the gun for it, the 122mm 2A31, was developed by the OKB-9 design bureau in Sverdlovsk (today’s Ekaterinburg).

The first four prototypes were ready and tested in 1969. The tests revealed a number of flaws, including excessively high concentration of fumes inside the crew compartment (the same issue that plagued the heavier 2S3 Akatsiya). To alleviate this issue, the designers attempted to replace the unitary shells with separate shells and charges but the situation did not improve and the matter had to be solved by other means in the end, namely the installation of an improved fume ejector. The results became satisfactory after this improvement and the 2S1 Gvozdika was accepted officially into service on the 14th of September, 1971. An airmobile parachute-deployed platform for the Gvozdika was developed as well, but unlike the vehicle itself, it was never accepted into service due to the parallel development of a dedicated paratrooper self-propelled gun called 2S2 “Fialka” (Violet).

The mass-production of the 2S1 Gvozdika ran from 1971 until 1991. The vehicle was also license-produced in Poland (from 1971) and Bulgaria (from 1979). With more than 10 thousand made, it participated in many major conflicts such as the Afghanistan war, the Iran-Iraq war, the civil war in Yugoslavia and is currently being used in Syria and Ukraine, where a number of Gvozdika SPG’s were - successfully – deployed in direct fire roles as improvised tank killers.

Throughout its lifespan the Gvozdika underwent several modernizations both in Russia and abroad, the best-known of which being the Polish Goździk equipped with a modernized TOPAZ Fire Control System and the Rak-120 120mm mortar on Gvozdika chassis. Other versions (such as the Iranian Raad) exist as well.

IN ARMORED WARFARE

The Gvozdika in Armored Warfare is a Tier 4 Self-Propelled Gun, available from Sophie Wölfli. It is one of the earliest artillery vehicles players will encounter. Unlike artillery vehicles at higher tiers, the Gvozdika cannot fire Illumination rounds –players are forced to play either as indirect fire damage dealers by firing one of the two vehicle’s HE rounds, or can provide cover for their allies by firing smoke shells.

The armor of the Gvozdika is very thin – its 20 millimeters of steel will not provide protection from anything but the lightest of automatic cannons despite its frontal sloping. On the other hand, thanks to its maximum speed of 59.4 km/h and the powerful SW-680T upgraded engine, the Gvozdika is faster and accelerates better than its American counterpart, the M109.

The 122mm 2A31 gun of the Gvozdika is quite damaging, although not as much as the M109’s 155mm howitzer. To compensate for lower damage it can, however aim and fire faster, and players also have the option of installing the TOPAZ FCS module, improving its aim time by 20 percent. Players can also unlock one Technology and one Firepower retrofit slot.

Other interesting items that can be obtained by playing the Gvozdika are:
  • Commander Juan Carlos Miramón (also available from the Swingfire AFV)
  • Gyroscopic Stabilizers Mk.1 retrofit (improving Aim and Reload times)

It costs 500 Gold to make the Gvozdika battle-hardened.

While not as powerful as the other Self-Propelled Guns of higher tiers, the Gvozdika is a solid vehicle, introducing players to all the basic advantages (indirect fire ability) and drawbacks (poor mobility compared to other classes, poor armor) of the class. In skilled hands, however, the Gvozdika is deadly and players caught in the open will often curse its accuracy and short reload times.

We’ll see you on the battlefield!

IN DEVELOPMENT: AMX-13

The AMX-13 is a French Light Tank, known for its incredibly long service. Where other designs from the late 1940s are long obsolete, the AMX-13 continues to serve with distinction.

Designed in the late 1940s, it represents a radical departure from wartime designs. When France fell to the German invasion in 1940, its armored vehicles were perhaps not the best in the world, but modern designs such as the Somua S35 were quite advanced. Unfortunately these vehicles were never deployed in very large numbers and were only entering service in 1940. Instead, it was the older designs like the Char B1, French Renault and Hotchkiss light tanks, and even the venerable FT-17 that bore the brunt of the attack.

French armor development continued in secret during the war and several interesting tanks were conceived between 1940 and 1945, but the occupation ultimately didn’t allow for any of these vehicles to progress beyond the drawing board stage.

After the war, France quickly learned that the armored vehicles of 1945 were far beyond anything the French military had in 1940 and even the most advanced pre-war French designs were now hopelessly obsolete. The initial attempts to restart armor production using the pre-war and limited wartime experience resulted in the creation of the ARL-44 Heavy Tank. Slow and unwieldy, the ARL-44 was obsolete even before the first prototype was built. Another design heavily influenced by the examination of German late war tanks left in France was the AMX-50 Heavy Tank, but this tank already featured one element that would become the hallmark of early post-war French designs, the oscillating turret.

These heavy monsters however represented the swan song of the western Heavy Tank design. The future lay in the universal medium-class tanks and – in some cases – light tanks, because that’s exactly what the French needed. By the late 1940s, the French still clung to their colonial dominion in Indochina and light air-transportable vehicles were essential for the creation of rapid deployment forces that could be moved abroad within relatively short amount of time and the AMX-13 was designed for that very purpose.

The AMX-13 was first designed in the late 1940s and continues to serve today in an upgraded form. Lightly armored but well-armed, it was initially built as the perfect tool for colonial service and became a popular French export article.

Its most distinctive feature is the oscillating turret armed with a 75mm gun fed by an automatic loading mechanism. At the time of its introduction, the oscillating feature was a novelty, its main draw being the ability to mount a rather large gun on vehicles with small turret ring diameters, allowing even compact Light Tanks to be armed with guns usually restricted to much heavier vehicles. The turret consists of two parts, the lower part connected to the turret ring and the upper part connected to the lower part by the means of a trunnion set. The upper part moves up and down along with the gun itself on the trunnions, allowing for considerably better gun depression that would otherwise not be possible.

The French 75mm gun, actually developed from the Panther gun, was fed by two 6-round drums and an automatic loader. Contrary to popular belief, the drums could actually be reloaded from inside of the vehicle but the process was extremely slow, awkward and practically impossible to perform while the vehicle was moving. Shooting all 12 rounds from both drums usually meant the vehicle had to retreat to safety before the crew could reload.

The turret itself had some considerable drawbacks as well: it was cramped and impossible to overpressurize. The latter is an inherent flaw of any oscillating turret – vehicles equipped with it cannot be made impervious to NBC threats and therefore cannot be operated in contaminated areas. It is also mechanically more complex and less reliable. The combination of these elements eventually prevented widespread adoption of the design, although the Americans conducted a number of experiments with it using prototype vehicles such as the T69.

In spite of these issues, the AMX-13 has proven to be a very successful design. Light and agile, it took part in several wars (including the Six Day War and the Indo-Pakistani conflict of 1965). While it cannot fight on equal terms with even older Main Battle Tanks, its small size and considerable firepower make it ideal for low intensity conflicts where the enemy is not expected to operate a large amount of armor or anti-tank weapons.

In Armored Warfare, the 75mm AMX-13 variant will be a Tier 2 Light Tank of the Third Dealer Zhang Feng and will represent the start of the upcoming Light Tank branch. In the future, more variants of this vehicle (such as the 90mm version and the 105mm version) will be added.

CHALLY 1 WOLF IN PVP

Hello guys
In my post before, I already tell you about credit gain in PVE with Wolf tanks. Now, I wanna do something I hate, PVP. I hate PVP because some player are crazy, arrogant, grumpy, toxic chat and full of BS sware. That's why I do more PVE than PVP. But now, I do PVP for compairing credit gain between PVP and PVE.

I already do some PVP match with Challenger 1 Wolf and the result is ...
In PVP, the credit gain is insane, 30%-55% more than PVE. In PVE with 25% booster and without 5x rep, I get 200k to 250k if I doing well. In PVP, I get 300k to 500k credit ( 25% boost active and without 5x rep ). That's so big different. Here, some screen shot ( I forget to ss the other and I log out :( , when I log in back, they are gone ) :

Ok, it's all I want to tell you guys. See you ....

Cent 120 Wolf is a premium tier 7 tank destroyer with high demage per shot and demage per minute, and also with fast reload time.

I already do some PVE match in hard difficult and the result is awesome. My Cent 120 can make up to 200K credit each mission. It's awesome for PVE (and imagine, how much if you play in PVP). Now, I'm not have to go to PVP if I want credit. But, you can make a high credit if you drive well ( get a blue star medal, destroyer medal, Highest demage in team, high spot demage ). Keep in mind, I have premium time and 50% booster active in my match.

Wolf pack is a good deal if you want to collect a exclusive premium tank and credit maker. Also, all Wolf tanks is a favorite tanks with good characteristic. Challenger 1 with the armor, Centauro 120 with high demage, Wiesel 1 with the mobility, speed and best scout, and the BMD-2 is a good spotter/scout AFV. They are in shop for limited time. Buy your Wolf Pack now.

WOLF PACK. BUY OR NOT ?

Hello guys
My.com and OE already release Patch 0.14 that bring change to the game, new PVP map, new PVE mission, Replay kit and High tier ballance yesterday, they release some Exclusive pack after patch 0.14 live, it's a Wolf Pack.

Wolf pack only can be purchase ONLY with gold. Yeah gold, so you must buy gold before. The price ? Honestly, it's not cheap. Wolf pack itself cost 20000 gold ( $84.48 for 15000+5000 gold ). What you get ? You get 4 exclusive premium tank, Tier 7 Challenger 1, Tier 7 Wiesel, Tier 7 Centauro 120 and Tier 5 BMD-2, all of them painted with unique camo and level 5 crew, (it give you 10% to stats) and 28 days 50% booster.

"Oh they are cool, but I juts want a Chally/centauro/wiesel/bmd-2. Can I buy only tank I want ?" YES you can. But you get 30% boost for 7 days each tank. You can't buy the 50% booster for 28 days. Here :

1. Wolf pack is 20000 gold (15000 + 5000 = $62.49 + $21.99 = $84.48 or Rp.1.233.408)

2. Challenger 1 Wolf is 7000 gold (5000 + 1000 + 1000 = $21.99 + $4.99 + $4.99 = $31.97 or Rp.466.762)

3. Centauro 120 Wolf is 7000 (5000 + 1000 + 1000 = $21.99 + $4.99 + $4.99 = $31.97 or Rp.466.762)

4. Wiesel 1 Wolf is 7000 (5000 + 1000 + 1000 = $21.99 + $4.99 + $4.99 = $31.97 or Rp.466.762 )

5. BMD-2 Wolf is 3000 gold (1500 + 1500 = $6.99 + $6.99 = $13.98 or Rp.204.104)

Some people in forum say Wolf pack is not worth to buy and prostest due the price. No one force you to buy. You like it and have some $ ? buy. You don't like it? Don't buy. EASY. No one force you to buy Wolf pack, even if you didn't buy it, you can still play AW.

It's a premium tank, so it give you so much credit every match you have. In PVP yeah, it's so much credit you get if you use it well. In PVE ? I think you get much credit but not as the PVP ( in PVE hard ofc ).

Guys, keep in mind, Wolf pack tank are in shop for limited time (24th of march to the 6th april 2016). That mean, maybe you can't buy it in future and become exclusive premium only for Open beta. And..... If Wolf tank are come back to shop, the price is more expensive ( like the Leopard 2AV ICE and MBT-70 MERC they sell in shop at st.Patrick day yesterday ).
So, what you waiting for ?
